Performance Pathway

Train together. Develop together. Compete together.

A New Training Group for Riding Club Members

We are delighted to introduce the Performance Pathway, a new training group for members who want to develop their horse and riding with the ambition of competing at Area level and, ultimately, representing Chapel at the National Championships.

Open to All Levels

The pathway is open to horse and rider combinations of all levels. You don't need to be an established competitor or already be working at Area Championship standard.

Whether you are looking to take your first steps into team competition or already have experience at this level, the aim is to help you progress from wherever you are now.

The most important thing is that you have the ambition, commitment and enthusiasm to improve.

How It Will Work

Training is structured around the needs of the group and each combination, with a focus on the skills needed to perform confidently and consistently in competition.

Fortnightly from October

Training begins in October and runs every two weeks at Buxton Riding School Indoor Arena.

Coached by Vicky Bentley

Sessions are run by our Head Coach, Vicky Bentley, who will give individual attention to each combination.

Three Riders per Session

Small groups of just three riders per one-hour session, so you can learn from watching and supporting one another.

What Sessions May Include

Flatwork and dressage test riding

Jumping and gymnastic exercises

Polework

Accuracy and adjustability

Competition-style exercises

Course riding

Competition preparation

Warm-up strategies

Rider confidence and mindset

Developing consistency under pressure

Your Own Performance Pathway

Each combination will be encouraged to set their own goals and identify areas for development.

We recognise that every horse and rider starts from a different place. The purpose of the pathway is to create a supportive environment where everyone can work towards their own goals while being part of a team with a shared ambition.

Confidence & Experience

For one rider, success might be gaining confidence and experience.

Personal Bests

For another, it might be achieving a personal best or qualifying at Area level.

Representing Chapel

And for some, the goal will ultimately be representing Chapel at the National Championships.

There is no expectation that everyone will progress at the same rate.

Progress from wherever you are now

More Than Just Lessons

The pathway will encourage riders to take ownership of their own development.

Between training sessions, riders will have simple areas to work on and will be encouraged to reflect on their progress. We want members to develop not only their riding skills, but also their ability to prepare, perform, learn from mistakes and come back stronger.

We will also encourage members to support one another at competitions and celebrate progress throughout the season.

Riding Club Support

Training sessions will be subsidised by the Riding Club for members, helping to make structured performance training accessible to our amateur members.

  • Subsidised sessions for members
  • Small groups with individual attention
  • Fortnightly sessions in an indoor arena

To create a supportive team of horse and rider combinations who train with purpose, learn from one another and give themselves the best possible opportunity to succeed at Area level and beyond.

Be Part of the Journey

Whether your goal is your first Area competition or a place at the National Championships, we'd love you to join us. Get in touch with Deb Hoggart, Team Manager, to register your interest.
